Requirements:

Scholarship: Students must have a 3.85 Weighted GPA, be enrolled in at least 2 AP/Advanced / DC courses for each of the two years prior to the selection process (juniors must have taken them sophomore and junior years, sophomores must have taken them freshman and sophomore years).
Service: They must also be actively involved in a community service organization inside / outside of school for two semesters immediately preceding the selection process. They must also have a minimum of fifteen (15) service hours that were completed in the two semesters immediately preceding the selection process.
Campus involvement: Must be able to provide a record of "active" involvement in one on-campus activity for the two semesters immediately preceding the selection process. This may include on-campus extra-curricular activities, co-curricular clubs, or organizations.
Character: The selection committee with look for the following characteristics: Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. The student must have an outstanding record of conduct and behavior regarding school, and community rules, guidelines and policies. This will be evaluated based on teacher / administrator evaluations based on a rubric.
Leadership: They must provide record of at least (2) leadership roles at school or in the community for the two semesters immediately preceding the selection process.

Selection Process:

Students will be notified the second semester of their sophomore or junior year by the Advisor that they meet the qualifications to apply to become a member of LCHS NHS.
Students complete a digital candidate information packet and application form.
The information goes to the Faculty Advisory Committee, and they vote on membership. There must be a majority vote for a student to be accepted into NHS.
Once the Faculty Advisory Committee makes their recommendation for membership, the school principal must approve the selection and then we can notify the candidate of their acceptance.
If they are recommended by the FAC, then they are invited to join and will be inducted at a ceremony in April. Students must attend the induction ceremony to officially become a member of NHS.
